Mil Memoirs
Mil
The family is cursed, or blessed depending, with military veterans current and past, who go way back.
Both sides.
My wife recently completed a novel based on her father’s tour of duty April-August 1944, with the 95th Bombardment Group, 13th Combat Wine, 8th Army Air Force based in Horham, East Anglia. He was a navigator on B-17s and survived the war.
Her book Man Bar Crew is available on Amazon and in local libraries.
While her father passed away without saying much, we live close enough to institutions like the Udvar-Hazy (Smithsonian Air and Space Museum) and the National Archives to view original paperwork from WWII squadrons. It was a thrill to see his signature, age 25, on reports.
Months back, I attended a skeet shoot at Col. Oliver North’s farm Narnia. Since Col. North publishes military books, I gave him a copy of her book, apologizing that it was fiction.
“Don’t worry,” he said. “Most military memoirs are fiction…”
